TOPEKA, Kansas – Visit Topeka has taken over the rights to Tap That: A Capital Brew Festival from Downtown Topeka Inc.
As Topeka’s destination marketing organization, Visit Topeka creates and promotes opportunities to visit our community for leisure, business or sports. Visit Topeka’s unique focus on developing and operating major events makes the annual brew festival a natural fit. Two examples of Visit Topeka’s event success are the Kansas Chocolate Festival and the Capital City Family & Food Truck Festival, each with an annual attendance of more than 15,000 people.
“We applaud the Downtown Topeka, Inc. leadership and staff for building Tap That into a successful annual event,” said Brett Oetting, president and CEO of Visit Topeka. “We look to grow that success and make this event truly regional.”
All tickets already sold for 2017 Tap That will be honored and the event will still be held Saturday, June 24 next to the Capitol on Jackson Street.
“This opportunity allows us to grow Tap That and to create related events,” Oetting said. “Topeka now has three local breweries and an active home-brew association and we know visitors are as excited about that as we are.”
For example, plans are being made for a November event that will feature winter seasonal beers, whiskey, bourbon and cigars. More details about that evening of sophistication will be shared soon. Visit Topeka also is developing a passport program to feature local breweries and wineries.
