Brews worth talking about.
Topeka lays claim to several breweries which have garnered a celebrated status regionally as well as nationally: Blind Tiger Brewery and Restaurant, Happy Basset Brewing Company and Norsemen Brewing Company.
Blind Tiger Brewery is named for the Prohibition-era custom of illegal drinking establishments displaying stuffed tigers or china tigers to alert potential patrons to the availability of illicit alcohol after hours. In southern dialect, a “tiger” was a roaring party. These “tigers” were “blind” because the authorities, at least officially, did not know they existed. The Tiger offers a wide variety of craft beers that over a 15-year span has won 21 national Medals and World Awards.
The Happy Basset Brewing Company was inspired by the owner's basset hounds, Gracie and Freckles, and has been providing Topeka and the surrounding areas with high-quality beers like the Smorter, a s'mores flavored porter, and the Fire Hydrant Stout, a chili porter.
The Norsemen Brewing Company, located in the NOTO Arts District, may be mortal brewed but it's Odin approved. Sipping a craft beer in the sophisticated comfort of our taproom will make you feel like you have finally found Valhalla. You'll enjoy beers like the Cherry Milkshake IPA, Love In a Longboat Lager and Odin's One EyePA.
A few new faces to this icredible crowd includes the Iron Rail Brewery and Barrister's Brewing Inc.
The train theme found at Iron Rail Brewery goes beyond their impressive murals and atmosphere. You'll be glad you decided to drink local with beers like Super Chief Stout, CKH Wheat and Engine Forty Nine Saison all inspired by the history of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF).
Barrister's Brewing is a law-themed nano brewery focused on unique small batches. They take their inspiration from common law advocates and aim to do justice for craft beers and the patrons they serve with beers like Ipso Facto IPA and Stand Ur Ground Stout.
