Watch downtown Topeka come to life at the annual Miracle on Kansas celebration. Saturday, November 26th will be filled with fun and festivities.

Start your morning by visiting small businesses throughout Topeka for Small Business Saturday. Topeka has many hidden treasures – shops you might not find in your hometown. Top City is the perfect place to shop for a holiday gift or a treat just for you. While you are packing your bags to come to Topeka, don't forget to pack those running shoes! The Rescue Run, benefiting the Topeka Rescue Mission, begins at 5 p.m. Saturday. (Don't worry, if you forgot your shoes you can pick up a new pair at Gary Gribbles next to Target, 2130 SW Wanamaker Rd.)

If running isn’t your thing, the Topeka community tree lighting will take place at 5:30 p.m. at 8th and Kansas Avenues. The tree is 25-feet tall and 14-years old. A local couple donated the tree out of their own front yard!

The tree lighting is followed by Miracle on Kansas Avenue Parade at 6 p.m. A variety of floats will represent Topeka organizations. I wonder how Topeka Metro will top last year’s entry?

After the parade, head over to Topeka First United Methodist to experience a little Topeka hospitality! The church is offering cookies, cocoa and carols. Festivities begin at 6:45 p.m. at 600 SW Topeka Blvd.

Post Miracle on Kansas Avenue Parade, if you want to continue to celebrate, Potwin is just minutes from downtown. The neighborhood’s decked out  Victorian homes are a notable Topeka attraction during the holidays. The decorated streets include the 100 block through the 400 block of Woodlawn and Greenwood.

The fun doesn't stop there Winter Wonderland at Lake Shawnee is put on by TARC. Every year the nonprofit organization puts together a two-mile light show that begins the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and closes on December 31. Winter Wonderland is open from 6 until 10 p.m. every night. The suggested donation is $10 per car or $20 for buses.

Well shucks, by this time you are probably tuckered out! No problem, book a room at one of our area hotels to get a peaceful night's sleep before journeying home.
