Seeking a unique dining experience complete with incomparable food options and a quality presentation? Look no further than Downtown Topeka’s newest culinary addition, The White Linen. This gourmet eatery has been open about two weeks and is already being touted by many as a fine-dining sensation.
The White Linen is a French contemporary influenced restaurant that serves new and traditional American dishes in addition to an assortment of French cuisine. Inspired by the cooking techniques of chef Thomas Keller of The French Laundry, owner and chef Adam VanDonge set out with his wife and co-owner, Kasie, to develop a unique and exclusive dining experience for those in Topeka and Northeast Kansas. Adam takes pride in providing exotic ingredients and dishes, such as truffles imported from Italy and braised rabbit. It should also be noted that each meal comes with a complimentary glass of champagne.
Additionally, The White Linen distinguishes itself from its competitors through its stylish and practical dining space. Located in the lower level of the Columbian Building, 112 SW 6th Ave, the restaurant has repurposed its section of the former bank to fit the needs of the establishment. The newly renovated space offers a 26-person dining room and bar, a former mailbox room turned wine room, currently stocked with a selection of white and sparkling wines, and the chef’s table located in a bank-vault built circa the 1880s. Guests that request the chef’s table will receive a bottle of wine and a sampling of every item on the menu, which culminates into a small portioned 12-course meal. Moreover, each party will be personally waited on by Adam. The chef’s table seats anywhere from two to six people.
Adam has previous experience as a sous chef in several upscale restaurants in Oklahoma City. He also formerly owned and worked as a chef at the 5th Street Sandwich Shoppe in Holton. The sandwich shop housed a private dining room called The Drum Room, which hosted exclusive meals one weekend a month.
Tables at The White Linen are available by RSVP only. Dining hours are 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, with private parties available on Mondays and Tuesdays.
