BrooksFest Poetry 5K Walk

Join us as we celebrate the poetry and 100th birthday of Gwendolyn Brooks with a poetry walk down the Landon Trail.

We will meet at the Brown vs. Board of Education site where a trolley will be waiting to transport us to the Gwendolyn Brooks Park. Once there, a poem or two of Ms. Brooks will be read before the 5K begins.

While on the trail, lines of one of her poems will be posted along the trail. Can you guess which one? Read along to find out. The answer will be revealed once you finish the walk.

Registration with the T-shirt is just $15 for adults and $10 for kids. Only paid registrants who complete the walk will also receive a button to commemorate the event. You can also order the shirt for the same price even if you don't wish to take part in the walk.

If you don't want the shirt or button, you may take part in the walk at no cost. Please use the Free Ticket option to register so that we will know you plan to attend.

Sign up by May 28 to receive your shirt on the day of the event. All paid registrations from May 29 to June 10 will be able to pick up their shirts on a day and time specified at a later date.

This event is part of Brooksfest: A Gwendolyn Brooks Centennial Celebration. You can learn more about the rest of the activities by visiting:https://www.facebook.com/events/1452533488101264/

All participants must obey the traffic laws when crossing the streets. For added safety, volunteers will be at each street crossing along the trail. Runners may participate but must follow the traffic laws as well.
