“Lift Every Voice and Sing”
Till earth and Heaven ring,

This excerpt from James Weldon Johnson’s poem is the inspiration and title of Richetta Manager’s concert to be presented on April 28th at 4:00 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church of Topeka.
A concert of gospel music and poetry from Langston Hughes to Maya Angelou. Selections including “Blessed Assurance” to “Old Time Religion” and an emotional “Tears in Heaven,” not to exclude a soulful version of “Purple Rain” and “Thinking out Loud”!
You will hear the expertise and virtuosity of two excellent musicians, Anthony Jones and George Sommer at the piano, accompanying “THE VOICE”, Richetta Manager
Richetta Manager is a graduate of Topeka High School (1971) and Washburn University (1975). She studied voice with Gordon Gaines and attended the University of Kansas where she studied with Norman Paige. While living in Chicago she studied with Norman Gulbrandsen at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and in Graz, Austria with Berton Coffin of the University of Colorado. Miss Manager was recognized as an Alumni Fellow from Washburn University and is in the Topeka High School Hall of Fame. For 25 years Richetta Manager was the lead soprano in the opera house in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. She is currently touring Europe.
Anthony Jones is a life-long resident of Topeka, 1971 Graduate of Topeka High and attended Kansas University in Music Education. He is the owner of Jnotes Music which provides private lessons for piano, sax, flute, clarinet, organ, bass, and vocal coaching. Jones is the President of Jnotes Educational Foundation which provide free or reduce private music lessons for disadvantaged families.
George Sommer is a media producer; producing film documentaries, portraits of companies, and educational films. A pianist and composer - Musicals, Symphonies, Stage Music & Film Music belong in his repertoire and compositions. His concert touring with various Jazz and Soul Bands make him a desired accompanist for every singer! He has served and directed in theaters throughout Germany and was chosen as a Quarter Finalist for his script “MEON” at the Hollywood competition “Scriptopalooza” Filmmakers International.
Sponsors of the concert include First Lutheran Church Sibberson Endowment Fund, Topeka High School Class of 1971, Thrivent Financial, Topeka Lutheran Fine Arts Council and SuperSonic Music.
No admission fee. A portion of a freewill offering will be designated to the Topeka Rescue Mission Children’s Palace.
