Visit Topeka and Harvesters, the community food bank serving Topeka and Shawnee County, are teaming up to present Topeka Restaurant Week in February and March.

Visit Topeka is actively seeking restaurant partners now, who will offer pre-set menus throughout the designated week, with a portion of each bill supporting the Harvesters BackSnack program.

Each week, 1,320 school children in Shawnee County receive BackSnacks, which provide healthful shelf-stable meals for the weekends, when school-provided free or reduced-cost meals are not available.

“By partnering with Harvesters and their BackSnack program, Topeka Restaurant Week will provide diners the opportunity to try a new restaurant or enjoy a favorite while giving back and supporting children in our community,” said Rosa Cavazos, director of tourism development at Visit Topeka.

Visit Topeka is launching its engagement effort now, during national Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, in an effort to increase awareness of hunger in the community.

The goal is $2 of each lunch purchased and $3 or $4 of each dinner purchased at participating restaurants between Tuesday, February 28 and Tuesday, March 7 will support the Harvesters BackSnack program in Shawnee County. It costs $250 to provide one student a BackSnack each weekend of the school year.
