May 11, 2015 (Topeka, Kan.) - Visit Topeka Inc. is excited to announce the first-ever Kansas Burlesque Festival to be held October 2 and 3 in the capital city. The inaugural festival is sponsored by Visit Topeka Inc., the Jayhawk Theatre and AOZ Magazine, and is supported by Topeka Performing Arts Center and Daves Lights, LLC. A portion of the proceeds from the two-night event will benefit the Jayhawk Theatre's restoration process.

"Burlesque is a growing entertainment industry that has been around for years," said Rosa Cavazos, tourism development manager at Visit Topeka Inc. "Visit Topeka is thrilled to be partnering with Jayhawk Theatre and AOZ Magazine to bring this great community-centered event to the capital city, and to support a historical landmark at the same time."

In conjunction with Topeka's First Friday ArtWalk on October 2, the Kansas Burlesque Festival will feature a burlesque style art show and a classic movie at the Jayhawk Theatre. On October 3, Luis' Place will be cooking up a wonderful dinner at the Jayhawk Theatre followed by a burlesque show at TPAC. The show will feature both local and national dancers.

Help us spread the word! Visit Topeka Inc. is now accepting applications for dancers to participate in Saturday night's show at TPAC. Interested applicants should contact Rosa Cavazos at Rosa@VisitTopeka.com, or on Visit Topeka's website. Applications are due by July 1.
